NT government scholarships and bursaries
Applications for 2009 are now open.
Early each year the Department of Education and Training offers the following scholarships and bursaries:
Higher Education scholarships for school leavers
Forty scholarships worth $3500 per year are available to school leavers to undertake full-time degree studies. Scholarships are awarded on the Tertiary Entrance Rank (or equivalent) with the top ten successful applicants receiving an additional $1500 in the first year of study.
The scholarships are only awarded for study interstate where the core program is not offered at a Northern Territory tertiary institution.

Vocational Education and Training (VET) scholarships
Twenty scholarships worth $4000 each are available to Territorians studying Certificate III to Diploma level courses. Applications will be assessed by an independent panel and strong consideration will be given to applications for study in areas of skill shortages and labour demand.
VET scholarships are available for one year only with study to be undertaken with a registered training provider in the Northern Territory.
These scholarships are not available to apprentices or trainees.

Student teacher bursaries
Bursaries are available to people who plan to study or have already started studying for a degree in education. They are also available to people who have finished a degree and intend to study for a Graduate Diploma in Primary or Secondary Education. Study must be full-time.
In 2009, we are particularly interested in receiving applications from potential Middle Year, Early Childhood, Maths and Science pre-service teachers.
Twenty bursaries are available worth $12 000 per year.

More Indigenous Teachers Programs
The More Indigenous Teachers initiative aims to address some of the challenges of recruiting and retaining quality teaching staff for remote communities by assisting Indigenous Territorians to become teachers in the Territory and encouraging Indigenous students to consider a career in teaching.
